While the argument about if Valencia de Alcantara is the one founded by Juanito Bruto is still on,... the truth is that the first sign of inhabitation is given by the great number of megaliths existing in the zone and which are enriched with Celtic, Lusitan and Veton contribution. Valencia de Alcántara still conserves 33 granite dolmens, and at least 8 made of slate, estimating that 14 have disappeared. In full 55 dolmens are gathered in the Monuments Catalog.
There are bronze age remains too, such as funerary headstones and some fortifications, megalithic precincts and false dome constructions.
